After the "Baguio Flower Festival" or "Panagbenga" in Baguio City last February 2008, another festival comes marching in. The Municipality of La Trinidad, aside from being known as the "Salad Bowl of the Philippines", has also gained its distinction as the "Strawberry Capital of the Philippines". This could be attributed to the growing popularity of Benguet's strawberries. In lieu of this, La Trinidad shall be celebrating its annual "Strawberry Festival", which will kick-off on March 19, 2008. However, I will be one of those who will surely miss the baking of the giant strawberry cake. For the information of everyone, La Trinidad is the Guinness Book of World Records holder for the largest fruit shortcake ever baked, measuring 8.75 feet in width, 12.3 feet in length and 8.4 feet in height. Apparently, according to Sun Star, during their interview with Mayor Artemio Galwan, La Trinidad will feature a video showing how the giant cake was made. This is to pay tribute to all those who participated in its success during the previous years. While the "Strawberry Festival" has not yet gained its popularity, it is perceived that with the right amount of publicity, funding and of course proper management, the said festivity may also become as famous as the Baguio Flower Festival.
