Paypal withdrawal to Philippine Bank Accounts
    Wednesday, January 30, 2008

Ever since Paypal announced that it will be allowing registered paypal users to withdraw funds from their paypal account and transfer it directly to banks in the Philippines, I noticed quite a few blogs writing about the topic. My friend Kuya Lestat redirected me to PMT(which stands for Pinoy Money Talk) when we were discussing about routing codes for paypal transfers. PMT has provided a step-by-step instruction on how to go about the fund transfer. However, I noticed quite a commotion on the “bank code” required to consummate the withdrawal transaction. I presume most were left in the dark when it came to this “bank code.” PMT likewise did its best to compensate for Paypals lack of information on the matter.

Indeed there was quite a confusion with this much required "bank code." First off, I believe Paypal described this as a routing number or ABA number if I am not mistaken. The ABA number is actually a 9 digit number uniquely assigned to the bank for identification/routing purposes(kind of like an ID Card No. in school). Now if you are a Filipino inquiring in any Philippine bank and you ask for the banks ABA number, I believe you might not be provided the right one. Why? Upon inquiry from a reliable source, Philippine banks do not have an ABA number. What we do have is the Bank Routing Symbol Transit Number or BRSTN which coincidentally is also nine digits. Secondly, I also read that the "bank code" is usually that 9 digit number printed on the topmost part of checks beside the check number(I assume that this is for dollar checks). Allow me to point out that the BRSTN is also printed on the same location for philippine checks.

Having made this observation, there was already a nagging feeling inside my chest that maybe I was on the right track. I had second thoughts though, because publishing a post that could affect lots of people in doing their paypal transfer transaction is no joke. Notwithstanding the fact that there are charges to be incurred in doing the transfer and I didn't want to take the risk. Going back to my bank code discussion, as per Paypals' release of the Official List of Paypal Philippines Bank Codes, these codes are actually the BRSTN of the banks main offices. These BRSTNs are uniquely assigned to each bank. Let us take for example, Allied Bank having a routing number of 010320013. Whereby, 01 pertains to the region number(in this case, Metro Manila); 032 would be the numerical bank id or bank code(if you would notice, all Allied Bank branches would be assigned a 032, whereas Metrobank would have 026, etc).

I encourage readers not to mention the ABA number when they are inquiring in Philippine bank branches, for the reason I have stated above, where Philippine Banks do not have ABA numbers(well technically they are not called ABA numbers here in the Philippines). Second, do not mention wire transfers for they will give you the SWIFT code(usually in this form--BNORPHMM or EWBCPHMM) instead. Some universal banks like Metrobank, BPI and Chinabank might be able to give you an ABA number when it comes to wire transfers, but that will most likely be the ABA number of the Phiippine banks nostro account abroad. This would still depend on what place the wire transfer is coming from.

That being said, while it is indeed a breakthrough , it is still in its early stages. However, I hope it could be well-developed so that it could serve the purpose for which it was implemented in the first place. Much thanks to PMT for keeping us updated with the developments. Just a tip, when you ask for a banks routing number(for paypal transactions), ask them the BRSTN of the banks main branch.

    The Love and Hate tag..
    Saturday, January 26, 2008
I know saturday was usually my tag day. Unfortunately, I had a few errands and research to do so I wasn't really able to get to it. Anyhow, this was passed on to me by Dann, a regular visitor/reader of my blog, who later on became a friend in the blogsphere. Much thanks for the support and the daily greetings of "Hi" and " How are You?". Believe it or not, it's quite something to look forward to when i check out my cbox at the end of the day.

    Now, for the tag...

I was asked to enumerate a certain few of the things I LOVE and HATE..no specific number whatsoever. Here they are...

    I Love..
    my family
    my friends
    people who talk some sense
people who can make me laugh
    dogs
    reading books
    cooking
    watching tv
    surfing the net
    music and the arts
    sleeping(i am so lazy sometimes)

    I Hate..
    Hypocrites and back stabbers
people who are unreasonable and inconsiderate
    Going out when its raining
    Power interruptions
Bank offline mode(aarrrgghh..makes my work harder)

Well, that's that. I would like to pass this on to anyone who is up to it. As I haven't been blog hopping for quite some time, I'm not sure of those who have already done this tag. So for those who haven't..feel free to do this..just for the fun of it i guess..

    Wise thoughts to ponder..
    Tuesday, January 22, 2008
This is actually a text message sent to me by my former officemate(he just resigned a week ago..sniff sniff..). I know most of you might have received this, but just the same I think it's worth sharing and remembering...

    1. A long life may not be enough but a good life is good enough.
    2. All truth is good but not all truth is good to say.
    3. Anger is just 1 letter short of D-A-N-G-E-R!
    4. Revenge gets you even with your enemy, forgiving him puts you above him.

--this by far is my favorite amongst them--

    5. It's better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and prove it!

    Had a bad morning again..
    Friday, January 18, 2008

I used to think that "morning" or "am" was something to look forward to since it was usually the start of a new day. You rise up to a cup of coffee and usually the rays of sunshine. Honestly speaking, I was never a morning person. During non-working days, I usually find myself asleep in the daytime and fully awake in the nighttime. I am definitely not an early riser..but I do try my best, especially since I have a job which starts at 8:30am and ends supposedly at 5:30 pm.

Unfortunately, I am not one of those who are allowed to go home on time. Considering the fact that I am again alone in my abode(the backroom section of the bank I work for--accounting section). Anyway, I was given the task of labelling some boxes to be shipped to an off site stockroom last monday. I wasn't able to do it because I was beating some report deadlines. We were only able to do the task yesterday night(there were three of us). Having been able to finish the assigned task, we thought that everything would be alright the next morning.

    I was wrong...

To my utter dismay, my boss decided to ask me(in a shouting manner) whether I asked the help of the other guys in labeling the boxes..I was tongue-tied..I'm not used to being shouted at especially in front of a lot of people. I was embarassed. It seems that our good deed was not a good one after all...

Arrrggghh..I couldn't believe it. First and foremost, I couldn't understand what the issue was all about. Let me relate to you a little about what transpired:

Boss: (shouting)Rj, did you ask help from the guys yesterday in labeling the boxes ?

Rj: No sir, but I was with **** and ****.

Boss: (still shouting)Why didn't you ask for help?!!You're the only girl here and they should be assisting you. You should ask for help.

    (Rj's mouth gaping open)

Rj: Ohhh..uhhhmm..we only did the labeling sir.

Boss: (shouting louder than ever) HINDE NGA E!!!Dapat humingi ka ng tulong!Huwag mong inaako lahat ng trabaho dito!!

Well, there were still statements that were said, but this just might be the summary of it. To cut the story short, I felt like all the efforts just went to waste. Aside from the fact that there were already a lot of clients staring. Had I known that I would solicit such a reaction, I shoudn't have done it in the first place. My boss is not talking to me for the time being, which I'm not quite sure is good or bad. But considering past experiences, I believe he just might hold a meeting on monday just for this one. To snarl and shout at me once again..awwww...And Monday is yet another morning I'm not looking forward to..

I'm trying to rationalize what brought about such reaction..I can't for the life of me think of a reason..any reason..for him to shout at me when all I did was label some boxes. Mind you, the labels were correct. Maybe I'm missing something here...

    An open letter...
    Monday, January 7, 2008
This morning I woke up hoping for a good day. Later on, I found myself answering an anonymous call. I didn't recognize the voice, but when the caller introduced herself..It finally rang a bell. I don't want to elaborate on what the call was about, just that I was judged incorrectly. It turns out that someone had misunderstood me. I tried to correct the notion, but I wasn't at the right place to do so(I just came from a meeting).

I always thought that having friends was one of the greatest gifts that a person could have. I was always thankful for the gift of friendship. However, sometimes (most of the time in my case) the gift of friendship is always misinterpreted as something more(especially with men). I was shocked when I received the call. First and foremost, I never had any intention of being more than just a friend. Secondly, I never recall of writing any word/s conveying that I had interest in having more than friendship. Thirdly, I have a name and a reputation to take care of(I'm a Filipina and I have my values).

I risk a lot in baring my soul here but I am taking that risk... if only to save my wounded pride. I have been hurt by what happened, as this has not been the first time that I have been accused of something I didn't do nor had any intention of doing. At this point I am trying to convince myself that friendship is indeed a gift. It's surprising how you wake up one day and suddenly realize that you might have been living in a lie(friendship being a gift I mean). I shall partially take the blame for being naive and letting my guard down... If believing that having friends is a fault then I shall take the blame. But I will not sit in the sidelines when you judge my character based on whatever it is you want to believe. If only you took the time to understand everything then maybe you could have gotten to know me better. Unfortunately, it was misconstrued as something deeper than what it really is...that "kuya" was all it ever was.

Lastly, let this be an open letter(you know who you are)..to defend myself and my reputation.
I am not expecting any explanation whatsoever..I have not done anything wrong because if I did I wouldn't be writing this. I seldom end a friendship, but if I shall serve as a threat or hindrance to any reconciliation...then I have to go..

Let me be just a memory of someone you had passed along during your life's journey....

Greeting the New Year with a Blog Award..
    Wednesday, January 2, 2008

I never even thought that there was an award like this. :) :) :)

I was checking out my blog to see if there were any messages in my cbox and there I saw that Kuya Jessie gave me this award. I was all smiles (how obvious can it get???!! simula pa lang abot magkabilang tenga na) :):) :) For a blogger who once kept her writings to herself, it is very fulfilling for me to be able to get an award like this. I never dreamed of getting one from the blogosphere. Hence, i use the word "fulfilling" because it only proves that I have not made a mistake in finally sharing my thoughts and views through blogging. It is indeed nice to know that I am appreciated by someone(if not all..ahehehe..asa pa ako) who has stumbled upon my blog.

And so with that, allow me to pass on this award to bloggers who i think also deserve the appreciation that i have felt in receiving this. To Kuya Lestat(thank you for encouraging me to blog again), Ate Manilenya( my inspiration in creating my second home), Malinesky, Kai, Waliz, Teban , and Maryanj.

Again, Kuya Jessie, thank you very much for the award. You have made me one happy gal because of it. Can I tag you back with it??(hehehehe)

    About Me

    Name: RJ
    Home: Baguio City, Philippines
About Me: I'm pretty much normal and sane. Much like anybody I believe that each and every person is unique, with their strengths and weaknesses. Thus, everyone should be given a chance to prove themselves. I stand firm with my convictions, but that doesn't necessarily mean that nobody can prove me wrong, I have learned that one is entitled to his or her own opinion. Just the same, you won't usually see me standing in the sidelines waiting for somebody to prove a point. I guess this is the foremost reason why this blog was created... And so I leave it all up to you to read between the lines..and begin to know me with the way I express myself through my writings.. :)
